Open Call from the Communist Museum of Palestine

08.07.2025

Dear Friends and Friends to Come,

As one part of the Communist Museum of Palestine’s contribution to this year’s Bergen Assembly 11.09.-09.11.2025- we would like to collectively create a decentralized city wide exhibition of donated works by artists in solidarity with Palestine and ongoing struggles to delink from the cultures perpetrating/denying the Nakba.

Our call is two-fold:
A. We are asking for friends, artists throughout our shared planet to create and donate a work of art as part of a longer term commitment not only to struggle for Palestian freedom but also to reclaim an idea of freedom no longer premised on perpetrating/denying ongoing forms of imperial, colonial, supremacist violence.

B. We are asking residents and community organizations in Bergen, who want to do something in support of Palestine to offer their personal and collectively held spaces for hosting these commoned works.

The initial idea is that some if not all of these works can eventually make their way to homes and communal spaces in Palestine. Our Convivial Museum of Palestine is one of the oldest in the world and has survived through the ongoing efforts by communities to create, affirm and maintain a Palestinian culture. It exists throughout Palestine but also wherever Palestinian life has forcefully been displaced and wherever that life is being cared for.

We hope that Bergen can host this care and commitment to Palestinian life, against and despite all the efforts to deny it, unsee it, obliterate it.

We also see this act by artists of giving works to our mussha’aist مشاعيّ (commonist) museum and by Bergen’s residents/collectives to host them, as a visual manifestation of love, support, soladarity with/care for Palestine in a moment when so much effort is being made by imperial colonial supremacist cultural institutions to normalize the ongoing genocidal expanse we witness there and throughout the region if not the planet.

This collective action is part of a larger transcommunal effort called d-0 د٠ which attempts not only to stop the ongoing genocide, which has been taking its most horrific form against the inhabitants of Gaza, but also to initiate a longer term effort to delink from the cultural and institutional forms constructed on, shaped by colonial legacies that continue to oversee by enjoining us to unsee the perpetration of the Nakba.

Here the Nakba names not only the ongoing attempt to obliterate, incarcerate, starve and suffocate Palestinian life, but also the construction of a planetary regime which has and continues to attempt to force a future premised on ongoing forms of supremacy, genocide, destruction and its obligatory institutionalized forms of denial.

Artworks and offers to host an artwork can be submitted starting from now and even during the Bergen Assembly which begins 11. September 2025.

For those interested to contibute artworks and for those interested to host them, please write to:

Please note, for the artists who generously share and gift these works, they will be as vulnerable as the lives they attempt to affirm and the obliterative forces they resist.
